
The term Drumhead Service, is said to originate from the use of a drumhead as an improvised writing table, as an altar for religious services, or a traditional gathering point for a regiment for orders or decisions. During the summer of 2005 there was an International Fleet Review, the first since 1977. A Drumhead Ceremony of Rememberance, a Spectacular re-enactment of a Sea Battle complete with thousands of Fireworks, All tied together with the Festival of the Sea in Portsmouth Naval Base. In an apparent effort to avoid giving offence, at the Fleet Review the fleets in the mock battle were called simply "Red" and "Blue".
